How to Access Land

The New Brunswick Community Land Trust is an organization that works to connect people with land. We want to help create meaningful relationships with the earth, primarily through gardening and small-scale agriculture. We have been entrusted with the stewardship of property, and want to make this land accessible to people in New Brunswick.

The first step towards accessing land is to fill out the form below:

Section 1: Applicant Information

Section 2: Statement of Need & Intent

  1. Why are you seeking a stewardship allotment? Describe your current barriers to land access.
  2. Describe your vision for this micro-farm. What do you intend to produce? How will you sustain your family?
  3. Community Contribution: How will your presence on the land benefit the local community or the Land Trust?

Section 3: Ecological Stewardship Plan

Note: Our mandate is the conservation of forest and farm land in perpetuity.

  1. Soil & Water: How do you plan to manage soil fertility?
  2. Input Reduction: Describe your approach to chemical use, waste management, and energy efficiency.

Section 4: Skills & Experience

  1. Farming/Gardening: List your experience with food production (vegetables, livestock, orcharding).
  2. Infrastructure: Describe your ability to build and maintain low-impact structures or alternative systems.
  3. Continuing Education: Are you willing to participate in Trust-sponsored research and workshops?

Section 5: Financial Sustainability

While the land tenure is free ($0 rent), residents are responsible for property taxes and building costs.

  1. Development Capital: If you plan to build seasonal shelter, how do you plan to fund the construction of your low-impact dwelling?
  2. Operational Costs: Can you confirm your ability to cover the annual property tax portion and system maintenance?

Please provide two references who can speak to your commitment to stewardship, community cooperation, or agricultural skills.

Declaration of Stewardship

By submitting this application, I/we acknowledge that the Land Trust retains title to the land to ensure its conservation for future generations. I/we agree that the right to occupy this allotment is contingent upon active, ecological stewardship as defined in the Stewardship Agreement.
